Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear for my corporate headshot? +
Firstly, I always recommend you check in with your company brand guidelines, and find out if they have any dress requirements or a particular look they are wanting to portray. Then I always recommend wearing clothing items that you love and you know you look good in, as comfort and confidence in your attire really shows up when getting the best shot. I also recommend making sure items are well fitted and can look good styled for sitting and standing shots. Itโs also good to think about wearing classic pieces, avoiding overly distracting or bold patterns, styles and colors that will age well and can appeal to a range of people while also expressing your individual style and personality. Taking the time to plan your wardrobe options for the shoot is well worth it and really show on the day.
What is the best background for corporate headshots? +
The best background is one that is complimenting your portrait but not distracting or too similar to the subject’s attire (e.g white suit on white wall of a fair person is not necessarily going to bring a very dynamic shot). A clean, simple lighter background with a tonal gradient is on trend for a contemporary look. Or a dark background can be used to create a professional elegance and a powerful or luxurious feel.
Additionally in situ style background like a blurred out office background, a texture office wall, or outdoor scene can give your audience an impression of approachability, openness and creativity, while also providing a context to tell a little more about your brand and personality.
Should I smile in my corporate headshot? +
A smile is a popular choice for headshots and marketing photos because we all want to meet and work with approachable, friendly people. An appropriate level of smile that reflects the image you’re wanting to present, your personal or brand style and type of professional industry is a good thing to think about and practice prior to the shoot. On the day of the shoot we discuss the style, feel and image you are wanting to portray in your shoot, and can discuss different ways of achieving the desired result.
We always shoot a range of expressions and can try out different styles on the day. With our โshoot and reviewโ process we are able to spend some time with you after each style of shot to help you narrow down the type of smile and look you want for your headshot.
How often should I update my corporate headshot? +
You should update your corporate headshot every 1-2 years to ensure it reflects your current appearance and professional image. Significant changes in appearance can be a good opportunity to update your images, as well as changing of roles or promotions. Headshots that are an accurate professional representation aids the trust and rapport building process of customer engagement, as people are more trusting of people who appear as they are portrayed online. Company rebranding efforts are also a good reason to refresh your headshots and maintain consistency and style across the rebranding effort.
What is the typical cost of corporate headshot photography? +
The typical cost for a corporate headshot can generally range from $75 to $250 per person. Prices range according to your photographer’s skill level, experience, the location of the shoot, whether you are wanting to include hair and make-up or multiple looks/style options.
Employing a skilled, experienced photographer means you are guaranteed an exceptional result that you are able to use across many media platforms for years to come. An experienced photographer will discuss the look and style you are after for your headshots and be able to tailor their skills and services to achieve the desired result.
How long does a headshot session usually take? +
After initial discussions prior to the day of the shoot regarding the style and look you are after for the headshot we will allocate time depending on whether the client is wanting hair and make-up or multiple style options.
Generally speaking We allow 15 minutes to produce 1 amazing headshot for 1 look. We breakdown your headshot session as follows:
1. Quick intro and explanation of what we are about to do, and any posing guidance if needed.
2. 5-10 minutes to take photos
3. 5 minutes reviewing photos and choosing your favourite.
What should I avoid wearing for my corporate headshot? +
It is also best to avoid busy, bold or distracting patterns, ill fitting garments, or items that are creased. Generally speaking, it is also best to avoid wearing colors that are too bright or may date quickly. It is a good idea to speak to your company regarding branding style and dress requirements for their desired corporate image.
What location is best for my headshot? Office, studio or outdoors? +
The location for your corporate headshot is very dependent on the scale and style of the desired shoot and the appropriateness of the company office space for a shoot location.
More often than not a professional photographer is able to set up an appropriate shoot space within a corporate office and find appropriate spaces to shoot with the office walls or feature spaces as the backdrop or bring along an appropriate backdrop to the office to create a shoot space in house. When this is not appropriate or available a studio or park/location will be discussed and planned out prior to the shoot.
What should I expect during a corporate headshot session? +
During a corporate headshot session with us, you can expect a relaxed and professional experience. We’ll guide you through the process to ensure you feel comfortable and confident. The session typically starts with a brief discussion about your needs and preferences. Weโll help you choose the best outfit and backdrop to match your professional image. Our photographer will direct you on poses and expressions to capture your best angles. We take multiple shots to ensure we have a variety of options. After the session, we’ll provide you with a selection of the best photos for you to choose from. Our goal is to create high-quality, polished headshots that represent you at your best.
Can group photos be included in corporate headshot sessions? +
Yes, most definitely, but be sure to ask for this and discuss your options well in advance to your shoot day, as this needs to be included in your quotation and an appropriate space needs to be identified to be able to accommodate and light well the number of people involved. For the larger group shots of 20+ people these will be done first prior to individual headshots so we can make sure everyone is present and ready to go. Smaller team photos of 3-10 people can be scheduled in after all their headshots are completed. It is good to allocate 15-20 mins per team headshot plus travel to different parts of the office as required.
Can I take my headshot outdoors or is a studio better? +
Yes outdoor shoots are always an option, and this should be discussed prior to the shoot day if this is desired. A professional photographer will have the equipment and lighting to be able to shoot a headshot outdoors and get as good or better results as in a studio (weather dependant obviously). The real question as to whether a headshot should be taken in studio or outside depends really on the style of shot you are wanting and often the type of industry you are in. If you are wanting more of a natural, candid style of headshot then outdoor headshots are great, and industry specific location headshots can really enhance the style and storytelling capacity of a professional headshot.
